CSRSA General Session: Natural Language Processing for Credit Scoring - EY

Presenter: Patrick Cane, EY

When: Tuesday, January 28, 2020

Natural Language Processing (NLP) has unlocked data sources that were previously difficult to query and impractical to include in credit risk modelling.  The application of NLP to alternative data sources such as bank and credit card transactions, telco, and financial statements has enabled improved scoring for thin credit files (including newcomers to Canada and students) and expanded decision automation for small business portfolios.  This session will introduce natural language processing in the context of variable creation and highlight common industry approaches to analyzing text data and making it available for credit scoring.  The discussion will explain industry challenges to implementing NLP and identify potential solutions.
